County Council budget sees increase in investment in road networks and support for local families

Last week the leading Conservative Group on Warwickshire County Council set their annual budget. Thanks to sound financial management Warwickshire County Council has been able to significantly reduce costs in recent years and in the coming years will continue to innovate new ways of working to further reduce costs whilst maintaining a high standard of services for local people.

The Conservative Group on the Council have delivered £98m of savings over the last five years by making large reductions in back office costs. These savings have been achieved by increasing partnerships working across Warwickshire and sharing services with other organisations.

This year’s budget sees a £2m investment in Roads and Highways and a further £2m investment next year which will allow the Council to maintain the present high standards of
Warwickshire’s road networks. Further investment has been made to help the children who leave care in the County and support them in their first steps into independent living.

Speaking after the budget was agreed Council Leader Cllr Izzi Seccombe (Cons. Stour and the Vale) said: “I believe that we have made strong progress as a Council over the last three years, we have delivered our Medium Term Financial Plan and have continued to do more with less money.

“Throughout this time we have maintained the confidence of the people of Warwickshire and at a time of further financial challenge we will keep a clear focus on our ambition to grow the
county’s economy, to help create employment and opportunity, whilst ensuring the most vulnerable residents across Warwickshire are protected.

“Since 2013 we have been working closely with the people of Warwickshire to deliver savings whilst maintaining a high level of services. Through initiatives such as the Lets Talk
roadshows, local people have been able to tell us what matters most to them. Our ambition is to ensure Warwickshire remains a great place to live, work and raise a family and this will
only be achieved in the years to come through sound financial management. It is clear that only the Conservative Group on the Council can deliver this for the people of Warwickshire.”
