Pledge #onething and improve your health this World Cancer Day

Partners across Warwickshire are asking people to pledge #onething and improve their health this World Cancer Day (4 February).

Over 350,000 people are diagnosed with cancer each year in the UK. Research shows that more than 4 in 10 cases could be prevented, largely through living a healthier lifestyle.  Since its launch in 2015 more than 1000 pledges have been made by people to change #onething to improve their lifestyle. The #onething drive has the support of many partners, including Warwickshire County Council, NHS Warwickshire North Clinical Commissioning Group, North Warwickshire Borough Council, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Rugby Borough Council.

It is also vital that everyone who is invited for NHS cancer screening takes up the offer, as screening helps to identify cancers early when they can be treated more successfully, increasing survival rates and quality of life.

Cllr Les Caborn, Portfolio Holder for Health said: “With so many demands on our everyday lives, making big changes can seem daunting. However, doing just one thing to improve your health can help to make a difference. Your #onething might be quitting smoking, cutting down on alcohol, eating more fruit and veg or being a bit more active.

“Everyone could make one change to improve their health and wellbeing, however big or small. We are asking Warwickshire residents to think about their #onething this World Cancer Day.”
